As an artist, I emphasize the communication of emotions and personal experiences, especially those dealing with loss, weariness or longing.  Through my work, I aim to compel viewers to touch on their emotions, memories or subconscious thoughts as well as explore my own personal experiences and how they can be communicated through visual art.

Within two series, my current work focuses on the function of art and the act of looking.  My 2014 works question the function of art, and within that, the purpose of the frame when looking at art. My more recent series deals with a more personal narrative.  By looking at both the serious and mundane thoughts that enter my daily life, these prints also explore the function of art by blurring the line between what is the paper and what is the image.

For Him 2014
ultra-violet screen print series

This series of prints was created in response to my series titled To Her.  While the previous series was inspired by words that my father had written, this series responds with statements or questions that I wish I could say to him.  Although these prints stemmed from an extremely personal place, they were made in such a way that leaves openness for viewers to involve their own personal experiences.

To Her 2013
ultra-violet screen print series

This series of prints addresses themes of time and memory through capturing layers of lost moments in found objects that I’ve manipulated into new images.  The words in the prints are derived from paragraphs written by my father about trips that he took kayaking around the West Coast of BC.  Time’s effect on people can be both physical and emotional, and this series speaks to both of these impacts.
